Which Meta Tag is more important, the description tag or the title tag?

you posted your question in the Google SEO Forum part, so I assume you're asking your question specificially about Google.

For Google, I think they're both important.

The meta description tag is used by Google as SERPS result description for that page, not always though, read about exceptions here:

Controlling Google Search Engine Result Desciption.

When it comes to an appropriate ranking in Google, I think the title tag is more important however.

If you ask me, the title tag definately belongs to the top 5 most important SEO criteria.
