Black hat SEO - definition

SEOs are considered “black hat” if they’re using using doubtful techniques to enhance rankings in the SERPS (Search Engine Result Pages) - this is also called Spamdexing.

Common black hat seo practises - Spamdexing

Spamdexing - definition:

Generic term for the techniques used to get pages indexed in the Search Engine Result Pages using fraudulent methods

Spamdexing includes:

- link spam

(placing links to their websites on other webpages without admission)

  • blog spamming
  • wikipedia spamming
  • forum spamming

- content spam

(altering the logical view a search engine has over the website’s content)

  • cloaking (showing different versions of their websites to Search Engine Robots than to human surfers)
  • meta tag stuffing (repeating the same or adding irrelevant keywords in the html meta tags)
  • keyword stuffing (filling the website with keywords in a high density, unrelated to the site content)

A Black hat SEO - how does he look like?

No, Black hat SEOs do not wear black hats usually, black hat SEOs might look just like you and me. Recently, I have seen one, here’s his hat, check out the picture ;-)
